MOBY-L271 experiment with MOBYrefresh - BS04cfg005 - MOBY264 postcals - NEW PROCESSING

Intial testing of BS04 data.

BS04cfg005 = Final assembly in MOBY for the MOBY264 deployment. After sys response data (fri night) where collected the FO block was remove, carted from tent to Rm 214 for Mark to bolt together optics with the ctrlr+pwr+cooling. On Sunday the housed BS was installed in MOBY, and the FO-block was re-attached. Because of the FO block disconnect Mike decided to increase the config number by one.

Problems seen (and solved) and good things:

  1. Postcals on Es did not "fix" the Es system response to so that the Es data would make more sense relative to MOBY Es data.
  2. First wavecals on this MOBY/config
  3. First int time cal on this MOBY/config
  4. First laser data on a complete BS system with Lu/Es collectors

DAY 1 & 2 EMAIL from Mike

Hi Steph!
Week-before-last we started the post-MOBY264 calibrations, so,
I have some post-MOBY264 BS04cfg004 cal data for you!

There are 2x log sheets @
/ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/doc/
for day01 and day02, and .fits data + linux logs @
/ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/day01/
/ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/day02/

Where:
Day01 was just LED FlashLight scans to verify my camera & shutter control which didn't work well on day00.
Day02 was a first set of Lu post-cals via the OL425 lamp -
scan sets were 2xDk,4xLt,2xDk via LuBot,Mid,Top (each after MOS and before SLM scans).
This is what my Day02 pseudo-processing results looked like (as a 1'st order check):
<attached: ob64bs04Lu01.png>
Very curious I am what you think aboot these data!
And, of course, do these responses help the M264 at-sea BS data make any sense...

I need to repeat a MOS Lu cal (tonight?), and I hope to cal MOS & BS Es ~tomorrow,
so if there are any big errors in these Lu data we will be able to repeat if needed.
Luck & Thanks, MF

DAY 3 EMAIL from Mike

Hi Steph,
New data I have for you on your NAS from post-MOBY264 BS04 cals!
1 log sheet there is for BS04 Es post-cal @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/doc/,
and 1 scan set of .fits data there are @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/day03/.
Enjoy!  MF

DAY 4 EMAIL from Mike

Hi Steph,
We have a LuBot wave cal for post-cal MOBY264 BS04cfg005 !
All BS scan sets were 2xDk/4xLt/2xDk (via Art's new software).
There is a logsheet rev2 for day03 + one for day04 @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/doc/.
The new .fits files & putty log are @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/day04/.
MF

DAY 5 EMAIL from Mike

Hi Steph,
Your three calibration wishes hve been granted - well, sort-of...
I ran the set of 5x wave lamps on the rest of the post-M264 BS04 Lu & Es sensors,
so there are 2x new log sheets for day05 @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/doc/
and 1x putty.log and 60x sig/drk pars of *.fits @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/day05/
where each BS scan set was again 2xDk/4xLt/2xDk.

I figured if I was going to move the sphere around the tent I may as well
just run the full set of wave lamps, because scanning just 1x lamp might
not have really answered the question of how many wave cals we are
in need of...  But, maybe next time we can get away with just one lamp,
so that may be something to think aboot as you work through these?

Tonight I intend to get an integration time cal for MOS, and hopefully
an exposure time cal for BS - then, maybe we'll move on to lasers!
Luck, MF

EMAIL from Mike about Es rsp

I get the same same:  <attached: ob64bs04Es01.png>

Mikes and My math for Es system response matches up. So that is good. But does not explain why the postcal response is not MUCH higher.

DAY 6 EMAIL from Mike

Hi Steph,
I have some more BS4 data for you!

This would be an exposure time cal via LuBot & Carol's OL455 sphere.
There is a new log sheet for day06 @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/doc/
There are a few .fits files + OL455 PD Amp log & putty log @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/day06/

The first 104 sig/drk pairs were from scan sets = 2dk/4lt/2dk,
and the last 10 pairs were from scan sets = 1dk/2lt/1dk.

I hope these are in aboot the same order as the last exp time cal!
I'm still struggling to finish my version of a pseudo-processed exp time correction...
Luck, MF

DAY 7 EMAIL from Mike

Hi Steph,
I took 1 scan set of test laser data in the tent last night,
via post-MOBY264 BS04cfg005 LuBot at 410 nm,
which looked not-too-odd to me...
<attached: ob64bs04Lb-Ekspla_01.png>

For you then, there is 1x log sheet @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/doc/
and 2xDk/4xLt/2xDk .fits + putty log @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/day07/

I will try to get a photodiode monitor logging today,
and begin to see what unsaturated vs saturated BS data look like!
Aloha, MF

DAY 8 EMAIL from Mike
Hi Steph,
The BS4 was removed from MOBY last Thursday, 19-Jul-2018 - I don't know
if you heard but there will be no BS nor RS on MOBY266.  The camera in
the BS4 has a flat window, so this will be going back to Andor for mods.

On Monday = GMT 17-Jul I got a set of Ekspla laser saturation data via
post-M264 BS04cfg005 LuBot = post-L271 day08.  These are the last
post-M264 BS data.  Most curious I am what you can do with these!

Only one laser line was scanned @ 410 nm = same as day07.
The laser power was set at max and was not changed.
BS scans were @ 2,4,6 sec = not saturated,
and @ 8,10,15,20,40,80 sec = saturated.
All scan sets were 2dk,4lt,2dk.
It looks to I that the 40 & 80 sec scans bloomed out of the track,
so I'm thinking these will not be of much use looking at the wings (?).
I'm hoping we can figure out how far I can go with collecting saturated
data such that it's not just junk!

I spent too much time getting a TEC'ed Si Photodiode monitor on the sphere.
Carol has been calibrating the "primary" SiPD so I set up our "secondary" kine.
The PD is a Gigahertz TD1101-1.  It's ampere output went to a brand new
pre-amp = Gentec SDX-1226-2.  The per-amp got ±15 Vdc power from a
HP 6237B power supply.  The Voltage output of the per-amp was measured
via our SLM setup = 3497A DVM + Labview software w/ chan #1 cfg setup
as for shunt monitor during Lu & Ed cals = high resolution 6.5 digit mode.
I'm unsure if you've seen the output from this LabView Vdc6_5.vi before?
I did forget to log a thermistor for ambient temperature as I usually do via
Vdc6_5.vi + 34970A, so, unfortunately that is missing from the PD log -
sorry aboot that.
I think it will be instructive to get this SiPD logging figured out, since that
will be part of our new SLC data routine...  I think I'll write a better .vi
for PD logging - one issue is that the pre-amp gain will likely need to be
adjusted depending on the laser power output, and on this pre-amp the
gain is set manually via a dial on the box, so the operator will need to
update the gain setting in the logging software.

There are 36x pairs of .fits files @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/day08/ ,
plus 2x logs = *_putty.log & *_pdmon.txt.
There is 1x new log sheet for day08 @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/doc/ .
There are 8x photos of the PD setup @ /ftp1/Mike/L271/bs4cal/photos/ .

Many Mahalo, MF
